Policy Manager, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS)
An experienced records professional specialising in governance, risk and compliance. He’s worked in the financial sector for 18 years. Currently Policy Manager at Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) with responsibility for the records management policy; previously Records Manager – Global Policy & Oversight. Before joining RBS, he was Senior Records Manager in the global markets business of the Dutch bank ABN AMRO for just over 10 years. With a Masters degree in records and archive administration from Liverpool University, he has worked in the pharmaceutical and energy sectors, the National Health Service and for Transport for London. He is joint editor of Managing records in global financial markets: ensuring compliance and mitigating risk published in 2011 and wrote the chapter "Establishing a global policy framework for the management of records”. For the last 7 years, he has been a member of the British Standards (BSI) Records Management Committee – and since last year also a member of the BSI Committee covering document management applications. He has been a UK delegate to the ISO Records Management Committee since 2010. During that time, he helped draft the new standard in the Management System for Records series, ISO30302-Guidelines for implementation. He was one of the two UK representatives on the working group that revised ISO15489 – the international best practice standard for records management (published in 2016) and was chairman of the BSI panel collating UK responses to drafts of the revision. He was also a member of the panel that revised BS10008 Evidential weight and legal admissibility of electronic information – specification published in 2015 and a former member of the BSI Document Preservation Committee which produced PD5454 Guide for the storage and exhibition of archival materials. He is a Registered Member of the Archives & Records Association and Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Management Professionals.
