In the Spotlight: Clare Cowling
Company: Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London
Job Title: Director, Legal Records at Risk Project
What attracted you to the IRMS Conference event?
I regularly attend to pick up latest developments in IRM
Where do you see the Information Record Management industry heading over the next few years?
Realistically? To oblivion as IT geeks take over "information management" as they see it - it already has in some organisations. Unless, of course, there is a major major recordkeeping disaster resulting in billion pound fines due to a lack of true records management.
When you think about the industry, what keeps you awake at night?
The above. The logical conclusion is that the majority of records from the private sector available to future researchers could well comprise fake news but will be accepted uncritically. I think TNA will protect government records.
If you have been to the IRMS Conference event before, what was your highlight?
Any of the interactive discussions. This is where you find out what the real issues for records managers are.
What do you feel is the most pressing pain point of end-users in the industry for 2018?
By end-users do you mean the organisations we work for, or researchers or both? For organisations it will be the financial, compliance and reputational burden of not managing information properly. For researchers see above - in the private sector not a lot of genuine information may survive.
Who has helped shape your career, and how?
Susan Healey. Can't thank her enough.
If a time machine could take you anywhere for one day, when/where would you go?
Ancient Greece (but as a man)
