Data Minimisation – Can it Save the Planet?

14:30 - 15:20

Nearly all organisations are ‘committed’ to ‘Net Zero’ or being ‘Carbon Neutral’ by a given date, somewhere around 2035…. Yet the desire for more and more data, the need for it to drive algorithms on social platforms, in advertising and the explosion in AI as a consumer tool and ensuring we are perpetually connected is pulling us further and further from that goal.

Is there any hope??

We think there might be. There’s an often-overlooked principle in the GDPR: Data Minimisation. This principle, in summary, requires organisations collecting and processing personal data to ONLY capture and process the data that is needed to deliver the service or product. Nothing more, just the necessary data.
