In the last few years, there has been an explosion in the volume and capability of workplace monitoring technologies available to employers. This talk will be a look at their effects on the employment relationship, and what role data protection law can play in restoring that relationship.
The talk will demonstrate the potential negative effect of workplace monitoring, going on to examine the effectiveness of the enforcement landscape in protecting the relationship. Finally the talk will make a number of core recommendations for the future, that the speaker believes will have a positive effect in restoring trust and confidence. The talk is based on the speaker’s Master of Laws thesis, which recently received a mark of 100% from the University of Northumbria.
