Records Manager, Kent County Council
Elizabeth Barber has been Records Manager for Kent County Council since 1993. Originally qualifying as an archivist in 1987, Elizabeth spent the early part of her professional life helping to sort out records belonging to the GLC post abolition. Elizabeth is now responsible for developing and implementing all aspects of corporate information and records management strategy to ensure that KCC’s record keeping systems are compliant within the current legislative frameworks. This includes maintaining the retention schedule and information asset register. Elizabeth was responsible for creating the Records Retention Tool which can be found in LG Inform Plus. Elizabeth’s most recent project has been managing the records management aspect of the re-let of the records management storage contract including the safe transfer of 70000 boxes between external storage providers. Elizabeth is an accredited member and Fellow of the Information and Records Management Society and has been a Chair of the IRMS Public Sector Group since 2003. Elizabeth was the recipient of the IRMS Lifetime Achievement Award for Records management in 2009.
