Head of Information Stewardship, MOD
Ian Henderson took up his appointment as the MOD Deputy Director of Information Stewardship in May 2018. He is responsible for driving compliance with information-related legislation across the Department, including the Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Public Records Act 1958. He is also the MOD Data Protection Officer. His first Senior Civil Servant appointment was MOD Information Head of Professions in June 2016 where he was responsible for setting the professional standards to be adopted by Defence, identifying critical skills requirements and promulgating learning and development opportunities to deliver a professionalised information community across Defence. In this context, ‘information’ includes the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT), Cyber Security and Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) professions. Prior to this, he was a full-time student on the Information Capability Management MSc with Cranfield University having successfully designed, delivered and tested a System Health method through which Defence could be assured on how the £15Bn per annum Defence Acquisition System was functioning. Previous appointments have included: Deputy Head of Strategy within DE&S CIO where Ian achieved Information Assurance Maturity Model (IAMM) Level 3 and took the organisation from the least performing to one of the most forward leaning; As Head of the Enterprise Programme Office for the DII Programme and the Defence Applications Rationalisation lead Ian avoided in excess of £74M integration costs.
