Richmond Davies

Head of Service and Data Protection Officer, Public Health Scotland

Richmond Davies heads the heath, well-being, cancer analytics, and social care functions in Public Health Scotland, an NHS Scotland special Health Board formed on 1st April 2020 during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also serves as data protection officer leading a small team of information governance advisors and working collaboratively with others in the wider information governance functions such as information and cyber security, records management, freedom of information, data access management, data quality, and the Caldicott Guardian. Richmond has 25 years’ experience of working in NHS Scotland in varied roles in child & adolescent mental health in NHS Lothian to information management, analytics and statistics in NHS National services Scotland, and finally senior public health leadership and data protection in Public Health Scotland. He had a brief 3-year stint on secondment to the Scottish Government as an NHS statistical advisor. He strongly believes that a robust records management function in any NHS organisation is critical to its success in meeting the needs of patients, citizens, and policy makers as well as ensuring compliance with data protection law. He has interests in governance, risk and compliance and strongly believes in investing in people in order to enhance performance.
