In the Spotlight: Diane Wallace
Company: Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
Job Title: Digital Information Manager
What attracted you to the IRMS Conference event?
I have been to 3 previous IRMS conferences. They are always very well organised, informative and offer excellent networking opportunities. I always come away feeling inspired.
Where do you see the Information Record Management industry heading over the next few years?
I think there'll be significant progress made on the use and management of our digital information.
When you think about the industry, what keeps you awake at night?
Not much really! But if I had to, I'd say how to engage users with the subject and appreciate the benefits of good information management.
If you have been to the IRMS Conference event before, what was your highlight?
Well Brian Blessed at the Gala Dinner was a treat, but on a work note, the 'Office 365 Implementation' presentation by Marc Stephenson last year was very informative and Edith Adam gave some useful tips in 'Reinventing the Records Manager'.
What do you feel is the most pressing pain point of end-users in the industry for 2018?
Probably having to move out of their comfort zone of structured file shares into new ways of working in the cloud.
Who has helped shape your career, and how?
I have been in the industry for the last four years and have had a variety of other roles with some very good and supportive line managers. If I had to say one person, it would probably be the mentor I had a good few years ago who helped me understand my strengths and give me the confidence to just go for it!
If a time machine could take you anywhere for one day, when/where would you go?
I've often said I'd love to pop back to my childhood days in my home town Eastbourne. Just to remind myself of the high street shops we used, the food we ate, the clothes we wore and of course to see family and friends no longer with us.
