Your Inner Compass When the Rulebook Fails: Ethics, Risk, and Doing Right by People

Sara Lloyd-Williams is a Privacy Manager at Oxfam GB. Previously she worked as a senior consultant in information governance and as a senior records manager for a county council. Her work sits at the messy edge where privacy, records, security and delivery meet, and her focus is simple: make privacy practical for real people.

She specialises in turning abstract principles into habits teams can use the same week. That includes clear decision logs, proportionate data sharing, retention and deletion that actually happen, and plain-English guidance that survives restructures and tight budgets. Her interests stretch beyond compliance into the social life of data: how design, culture and power shape what “good” looks like, and how to protect people without freezing progress.

She advocates for human-centred privacy across IT and product teams, and for stronger, publicly accountable oversight of data use in a globalised society. Vendor-neutral, hands-on, people first.
