Persuading the Unpersuadable – Promoting the ‘Value’ of Information Compliance
This session will explore the benefits of building information governance networks across different disciplines, where the concepts of ‘compliance’ and ‘information governance’ may seem alien or in conflict with their objectives. Talking through my experience overseeing a network of over fifty Local Information Managers within the largest arts university in Europe, I want to explore how to promote the value of compliance to professional services staff, project managers, academics and creatives who fear the worst, how to reach out to them, build trust, and make it make sense from their perspective. The talk will explore various challenges and the approaches that have worked best, leading up to our current information governance approach aiming to address the three Cs of compliance, cost and climate impact through the same best practice, where legal compliance is framed as a baseline for improvement instead of an end in itself.
