Sue Trory is an independent AI ethics consultant specialising in educational technology, organisational AI governance, and responsible AI implementation. She brings a distinctive combination of 25 years of senior commercial leadership in international educational publishing and formal academic training in AI ethics and society.

Throughout her career, Sue has held strategic leadership positions at some of the world’s most prestigious educational publishers. Most recently, she served as Global Content Director at Oxford University Press, leading a team of 90 people and overseeing a portfolio worth over £170m. Previously, she was Head of Adult & Higher Education at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, where she drove the international expansion of Linguaskill, an AI-powered English language assessment system now central to Cambridge Assessment’s portfolio. She has also held senior roles at Pearson, Macmillan Education, and Heriot-Watt University.

Sue’s extensive experience spans product strategy, international market development, team leadership, and digital transformation across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. She is fluent in Spanish and has deep expertise in English Language Teaching markets, assessment design, and AI-powered educational products.

Sue is currently completing an MA in AI, Ethics and Society at Birkbeck, University of London, where her research examines how epistemological assumptions embedded in AI systems create governance risks and developmental challenges. Her dissertation focuses on how adult-centric bias in large language models affects children and young people.

As a consultant, Sue works with schools, publishers, assessment organisations, and EdTech companies to develop AI governance frameworks, build organisational critical thinking capabilities, and implement responsible AI practices. She is passionate about ensuring AI serves educational goals whilst protecting vulnerable populations and maintaining professional accountability.
