Leading from the Middle: Building Strategic Confidence in Governance Roles

12:00 - 12:40

Information governance professionals are often expected to influence senior leaders, manage risk and guide decisions without formal authority. In this session, I will share practical approaches to developing strategic confidence and credibility in these “middle leadership” roles, drawn from my experience working with governance teams across sectors.

We will explore how to communicate complex messages in business terms, use evidence and insight to influence decision-makers and manage conflict constructively. I will also show how to build alliances across departments, apply emotional intelligence in high-pressure situations and reframe governance from a compliance function to a strategic enabler.

Delegates will leave with practical tools to strengthen their leadership presence, gain recognition for their expertise and build trust across their organisations—turning everyday governance interactions into opportunities for influence and impact.
