Turning Knowledge into Action at the Home Office

13:40 - 14:20

At the Home Office, Knowledge Management is more than a process—it’s a culture of continuous learning and collaboration. Our approach integrates explicit and tacit knowledge, recognising that while structured data is vital, the insights held in people’s experiences are equally critical. We have embedded techniques such as storytelling to capture lessons learned, making knowledge transfer engaging and relatable. This method has been showcased across government as best practice, enabling colleagues to visualise impact and foster collaboration. Our strategy aligns with organisational priorities, ensuring knowledge is not only preserved but actively used to improve decision-making and avoid duplication. By combining digital tools and platforms, communities of practice, and reflective exercises, we mitigate the risk of knowledge loss and unlock opportunities for innovation. This presentation will explore how these principles have shaped our Unit’s work and the benefits realised across the department.
