Mildly Structured, Mostly Harmless: Building GKIM Networks One Conversation at a Time

10:10 - 10:50

In a profession built on connection—between data, documents, departments, and decisions—networking is often overlooked as a core skill for Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) professionals. Born from a simple conversation between three mid-career practitioners in government roles, KIM Coffee Connect is a grassroots initiative designed to make networking for KIM professionals across government departments feel natural, inclusive, and genuinely useful.

This session will explore the role of networking in KIM, why it matters, and how it can be done well—without pressure or pretence. We’ll share what we’ve learned from setting up KIM Coffee Connect, offer practical tips for building meaningful professional relationships, and invite participants to take part in a friendly, facilitated networking activity. Whether you’re new to networking or looking to refresh your approach, this session will help you strengthen your inner compass and connect with confidence.
